Parents for Megan's Law recently conducted three national surveys. The first survey evaluated sex offender registration compliance. Our results indicate that approximately 24% of the nation's sex offenders are failing to comply with state registration requirements. When citing this statistic please refer to www.parentsformeganslaw.org. The second and third studies evaluated accessibility of sex offender information, the extent of information available and states' participation in civil committment laws. These two studies resulted in national report cards being issued. States are assigned grades based upon their answers to ten questions and bonus points were assigned in the 2006 report card. Following is the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 state by state lisitng of the number of current registrants and their Parents for Megan's Law grades.

Please be advised that 48 state agencies and DC post their sex offender registry via the Internet. In some cases a state agency may not post the information but a local law enforcment agency may post for offenders within their jurisdiction only. In some cases, the state agency posts the registry and the local agencies post as well. There are also links for advocacy or other organizations that make the information available.
