Jennifer Reiffert, a 24 year old camp counselor at a summer day camp in East Setauket, was arrested yesterday and charged with sexually abusing a 3 year old girl on one of the camp's buses. The incident allegedly occurred on July 22 just after 9:30 a.m. when Reiffert, who lives at 373 Lake Pointe Drive in Middle Island, picked up the girl from her family's home to drive her to the Laurel Hill School. Authorities say at some point along the way, Reiffert allegedly used her fingers to penetrate the girl's vagina and anus, and struck her on the arm. Reiffert, who has no criminal record and has been suspended by the school, has denied any wrongdoing to detectives. An order of protection against her was issued prohibiting her to go near the girl, and she was ordered held at Suffolk County jail on $25,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond. If she is convicted, she faces up to 7 years in prison.
