It was supposed to be a scar intended to scare, but it would up severing familial ties
forever and has landed a British Columbia man behind bars for 10 years. Earlier this week,
Supreme Court in New Westminster, B.C. heard James Curtis Bristol, 28, only planned to stab distant
cousin Zachary John Douglas, 29, in the face to "make him ugly" and scare him so he would stop
sexually assaulting others. But Bristol ended up stabbing Douglas in the chest and arm at a
drug and alcohol-fueled Maple Ridge, B.C. house party on September 29, 2007. The wounds
turned out to be fatal. According to the Times, Douglas, an actor who appeared in the movie
Legends and TV series The Beachcombers, was banned from the Squamish First Nation reserves in West
and North Vancouver due to allegations of using date-rape drugs and assault at the time of his
death. He was killed before he could face prosecution for his latest incident in January
2007.
