BILL BARRING SEX OFFENDERS FROM LIVING NEAR SCHOOLS CLEARS STATE HOUSE

Convicted sex offenders wouldn't be allowed to live near schools or daycare centers under legislation that passed the House on Tuesday. The bill bars convicted sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of any school or daycare center and also requires sex offenders to update their photographs and personal information every two years. It requires all sex offenders to remain on the state's registry for 20 years. Under current law, some are removed from the registry after 10 years.
