Elizabeth Shoaf, the 14 year old girl missing for more than a week before summoning help by sending a text message from the underground bunker where she was being held captive, is now resting and recovering from her ordeal. Vinson Filyaw, 36, surrendered Sunday to police as he walked along Interstate 20 near Columbia, about five miles from where investigators found the teen a day earlier. Filyaw was being held at the Kershaw County jail. Shoaf was rescued over the weekend after she sent her mother a message with Filyaw's phone while he was asleep.
Filyaw, who already was wanted for an alleged sex crime against a 12 year old girl, will be charged with kidnapping, possession of an incendiary device and impersonating an officer.
