Federal Megan's Law Overhaul
Megan's Law is a federal law that strongly encourages all 50 states to register those who commit sex offenses against children and sexually violent offenses against adults. The federal government established minimal standards that each state would have to meet in order to continue to receive federal crime fighting funding. Some states have met only the minimal standards while others have taken proactive steps to strengthen their laws significantly. Frustrated parents have been unable to access valuable information in those states who are only meeting the minimal standards. For many years we have lobbied for a more uniform Megan's Law to give you the information you need to protect yourselves and your children. If passed into law, House Bill HR4472 Sensenbrenner will bring a more uniform Megan's Law to our nation. Senate bill 1086 Hatch, is the newly introduced Senate version which together with the House bill will strenthen our ability to protect our most vulnerable.
Support the Sensenbrenner Hatch proposals.
