New Resource & Support Center Funded

Suffolk County Becomes The Model Nationwide In Funding The Parents For MeganÌs Law Childhood Sexual Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Resource & Support Center

Thanks to Suffolk County Legislator Joe Caracappa's commitment to the children of Suffolk, parents and caregivers in Suffolk County will be provided advocacy, childhood sexual abuse prevention education, policy and legislative support services. In an effort spearheaded by SuffolkÌs crime prevention supporter, Suffolk County Legislator Joseph T. Caracappa, and Suffolk County Executive Robert J. Gaffney along with Suffolk legislators voted to support the expansion program. Legislators Fisher, Towle, Carpenter and members of the democratic caucus also pooled funds together to make this program possible. We commend the Suffolk County Legislature and County Executive for their dedication to the protection of the children of our county.

Our Hotline program has been seen as the model in the comprehensive management of MeganÌs Law notifications on a community level. However, the expansion program will now make Suffolk County the trailblazer not only in New York State but in the nation for the effective community level management of MeganÌs Law with the provision of crime prevention services such as CSAP education, advocacy, policy and legislative support.

Parents in Suffolk have relied upon the Hotline (631) 689-2672, funded by the Suffolk County ExecutiveÌs Office, to answer commonly asked questions about MeganÌs Law and limited advocacy services. As the number of sex offender notifications has increased so too has the need and demand for ParentÌs For MeganÌs Law services such as childhood sexual abuse prevention (CSAP) education, advocacy, policy and legislative support.

The program expansion will also mean that Parents For MeganÌs Law will be moving to a larger headquarters in the Stony Brook area. The expansion program will also be funded in part by a grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services which was secured by New York State Assemblyman Steven Englebright and New York State Senator James J. Lack.

To register for a workshop or if you would like to volunteer please call the Hotline at (631) 689-2672.
