BABY SURVIVES RAPE AND BURIAL IN FLORIDA WOODS

Randolph Standifer, 21, kidnapped, raped and abandoned a 9 month old girl in a wooded area.  He was charged with kidnapping, capital sexual battery and attempted first degree murder, and was being held without bail.  He faces a possible life sentence if convicted.  He told detectives he took the baby from her crib Saturday morning.  He is a friend of the baby's family and had spent the night at their home after a party.  He confessed after failing a polygraph and also gave directions to where he had left the baby.  When deputies arrived they expected to find the girl dead but then saw a tiny hand thrust up from beneath a layer of leaves and branches.
