Some researchers report that triptorelin, a new type of testosterone-reducing drug, couples withpsychotherapy, greatly reduces desire among men to molest children and engage in other deviantsexual behavior. They said that triptorelin sharply reduced blood levels of the male hormonetestosterone, and did so with fewer adverse side effects to the patient than othertestosterone-lowering chemicals.

A woman who was sexually abused by a high school official more than two decades ago, wants thestate to pass legislation that might prevent similar abuse from happening to other students. Shetestified at a state Senate hearing to show her support for a bill to establish procedures forreporting and investigating child abuse at schools. The bill would eliminate so-called quietresignations which allow those involved in child abuse allegations to step down and seekemployment in other districts. The new law would require school officials to report abuseallegations to outside law enforcers.

A UNESCO conference urged Internet providers and parents Tuesday to combat pedophilia on the Internet but stopped short of calling for the global legal framework many had hoped for. Some of those attending the conference of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization said the recommendations, passed by 325 experts from 40 countries, were not tough enough.

John Becerra, 45, pleaded guilty in February 1996 to four counts of sexual abuse and two count of endangering the welfare of a minor for incidents during 1993 and 1994 in Bellport that involved several children. He was sentenced to six months in jail and five months probation. After serving four months, he was released with special conditions for further rehabilitative treatment. Lorne Douglas Ferguson, 51, was arrested for a sexual assault that happened 30 years ago. Police in Toronto had no photos of how he looked 30 years ago and called on a police artist who has aged thousands of faces for criminal investigations. Police hope a younger picture of him will encourage victims to come forward.
