BOY’S TIP LEADS TO STALK ARREST

Brian Schlacter, a 61 year old basketball coach who lives at 71 Overton Street, Freeport, wasarrested in 2001 for sodomizing a 13 year old boy in the storage room of a Baldwin church. He wadbeen volunteer coach for the past 20 years with the Church of St. Christopher and the Nassau PoliceActivities League. He allegedly took the boy into the storage room adjacent to the gym, locked thedoor and sodomized him in February 2001. Then a similar incident with the same boy happened inDecember. He has been charged with second degree sodomy and attempted second degree sodomy. Hepleaded not guilty at his arraignment and bail was set at $6,000. Police said there is noinformation to indicate that there are other victims, but have asked anyone with information tocall 516-573-6151 or 1-800-244-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous. Schlacter was jailed in 2002,serving 2 1/2 years and paroled in 2005.

A 13 year old boy's quick thinking in copying down the vehicle license plate of a man who hadbeen following him led Nassau police to arrest Schlacter, a registered Level 3 sex offender, onstalking charges. The Freeport boy had spotted the same man tailing him on three occasions over thepast few months. After his arraignment on felony charges of stalking Friday morning, he was held onbail of $40,000 bond or $20,000 cash is due back in court on Tuesday.
