CALL TO SUDAN TO PROBE RAPE CASES
The UN High commissioner for Human Rights called for the Sudanese government to carry out an impartial investigation into allegations its soldiers took part in at least 15 cases of rape and sexual assault on women in Darfur in December. Assaults at the hands of uniformed men were reported on victims as young as 13 and on at least two pregnant women in the eastern Jebel Marra region of Darfur.
