Wayne DuMond, a 51-year-old castrated rapist on parole, is charged with first-degree murder inthe death of a Missouri woman and prosecutors may seek the death penalty. Carol Sheilds, 39, ofParkville, Mo., was found suffocated in a friend's apartment about 10 miles from DuMond's home, towhich he had moved seven weeks earlier. DNA samples taken from beneath her fingernails connectedDuMond to the crime. His genetic profile was in a national database because of his 1984 convictionin Forrester City, Arkansas for raping a 17 year old. He was castrated by masked men who broke intohis home while awaiting trial for the rape. He was paroled in 1999.
