aol.com 7/15/15 Lloyd Lee Michael Welch, Jr., a 58 year old imprisoned sex offender, has been charged withfirst-degree murder in the disappearance of two sisters from a suburban Maryland mall in1975.  Twelve year old Sheila Lyon and 10 year old Katherine Lyon walked from their house tothe Wheaton Plaza Mall in March 1975.  They never came home and no bodies were found. After decades of investigating leads and periodically identifying suspects, officials say they nowknow that Welch was responsible.  He is a child sex offender serving a lengthy prison term inDelaware.

rnrnParents for Megan’s Law is slated to begin monitoring the online activities ofrnNassau County’s 550 registered sex offenders early next year, including tracking posts on Facebookrnand Twitter, and forwarding leads to police.  Laura Ahearn, executive director of Parents forrnMegan’s Law, said the expanded program would boost public safety by helping to maintain anrnaccurate and up-to-date sex offender registry.  Ahearn said her group also will create arntelephone hotline for people with questions about Megan’s Law and for victims to reportrnallegations; refer sexual abuse victims to local counseling program; and create a prevention-basedrneducation program in schools and police precincts.rn

Parents for Megan’s Law is slated to begin monitoring the online activities of NassaurnCounty’s 550 registered sex offenders early next year, including tracking posts on Facebook andrnTwitter, and forwarding leads to police.  Acting Nassau Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpterrnsaid the Stony Brook-based nonprofit, which focuses on preventing sex abuse crimes and supportingrnvictims, also would create a smartphone app to allow the public to report possible sex offenderrnviolations.  Laura Ahearn, executive director of Parents for Megan’s Law, said the expandedrnprogram would boost public safety by helping to maintain an accurate and up-to-date sex offenderrnregistry.  Ahearn said her group also will create a telephone hotline for people withrnquestions about Megan’s Law and for victims to report allegations; refer sexual abuse victims tornlocal counseling program; and create a prevention-based education program in schools and policernprecincts.  The police department and the county’s Department of Probation will continue tornmake all visits and phone contacts with convicted offenders.rn
