An 11-year-old pregnant Romanian girl allegedly raped by her 19-year-old uncle who has sincedisappeared, will travel to Britain for an abortion despite a government ruling that the procedurecan take place in Romania.  Ignoring pressure from a number of religious groups, a governmentcommittee ruled Friday the girl could have an abortion in Romania even though her 21-week pregnancyis beyond the 14-week limit set by law.  The family said they would still travel to Britain.

Authorities in Portugal are searching for 3 year old Madeleine McCann, a British girl kidnappedfrom the apartment villa in the southern Algarve region where her family was staying on May 3. Thegirl was taken from the bedroom where she was sleeping Thursday night while her parents dinednearby with friends.

Carlos Cruz, Portugal’s best-known TV personality, and six others have been charged withsexually abusing orphans. The trial began yesterday. Cruz, known as Mr. Television, faces fivecharges of sexual abuse and one of a homosexual act with an adolescent. One of the defendants is awoman and they are accused of molesting children at Lisbon’s Casa Pia orphanage. The other suspectsinclude an ex-ambassador and a former Casa Pia deputy warden. An ex-Casa Pia driver faces more than300 charges of procuring the children for the accused.
