Port Jefferson School Board Approves $16.5M to Settle Sexual Abuse Lawsuits

The Port Jefferson Board of Education announced approval of a total payout of $16.5 million to resolve lawsuits brought by seven people alleging sexual abuse that occurred years ago. The announcement was made in a statement posted on the district’s website late Friday night, Nov. 1.

An after-school program director from Elmont was arrested for sex-related crimes that occurred last month, detectives say.

Daniel Butler, 41, is employed by the Fullness of Joy Ministries Church in Jamaica.

According to detectives, the 10-year-old female victim attends the after-school program and was also present at Butler’s home for childcare at 81 Rockmart Ave. in Elmont.

The incident allegedly happened at the Elmont home when he was babysitting the victim.

TRACY, Calif. — A teacher was arrested after being accused of sex crimes against students at high schools in Tracy and Modesto.

Police said they started investigating after getting alerted to an inappropriate relationship between the teacher and a student at West High School on April 25.
