NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – As the investigation continues into Peter Frank, the Roland Grise Middle School teacher charged with 12 counts of indecent liberties with a child or student, a new state law aimed at reducing sexual abuse of children comes into sharp focus for one of the legislators behind it.

State Rep. Ted Davis (R-New Hanover) said the purpose behind Senate Bill 199 was to strengthen North Carolina’s laws protecting both children and adults who are victims of sexual violence.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City said Tuesday that it has substantiated allegations of child sexual abuse against another priest.

The archdiocese said in a news release that allegations of abuse of a minor were substantiated against Father Marvin Leven by the archdiocese following an investigation by the Oklahoma City law firm McAfee & Taft. It said the allegations date to 1993, when Leven, now 94 and retired, was assigned to Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Enid.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (NSF) — After hearing the harrowing details of a high-school gang rape, a House panel on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill that would eliminate the time limit for child sex-abuse victims to initiate a criminal case against their abuser.
Katrina Duesterhaus urged the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee to pass the proposal (HB 199), which would remove the statute of limitations in sexual battery cases when the victim is younger than 18 years old at the time of the crime.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A bill to eliminate the statute of limitations for rape, child exploitation and certain other sexual offenses is moving forward at the Indiana Statehouse.

Pennsylvania overhauled its child sexual abuse laws Tuesday, as Governor Tom Wolf signed three bills meant to protect sexual assault survivors. The reforms incorporate recommendations made by a grand jury after hundreds of cases of clergy abuse were uncovered in 2018.
Decades of alleged misconduct and cover-ups were outlined in the grand jury’s report, implicating more than 300 priests in a statewide sex scandal. Nearly every instance of abuse was too old to be prosecuted, a fault legislators said the new bills will repair.
