The New York State Department of Health has recognized Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue as a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner, or SAFE, designated hospital. The hospital is one of four in Suffolk County with the designation. The hospital partners with Victims Bureau of Suffolk County, providing specially trained SAFE examiners to victims at the hospital. “Receiving designation as a SAFE hospital allows Long Island Community Hospital to meet a growing healthcare concern in our community,” President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Margulis said in a statement.

Survivors of alleged sexual and physical abuse at a children’s mental health unit have vowed to continue their fight for justice after a three-year police investigation ended without charges.
Police said they found evidence that children had been over-sedated by staff at the Hill End Hospital Adolescent Unit in St Albans, between the 1960s and its closure in 1995.
Hertfordshire Constabulary investigated allegations of beatings, mistreatment and sexual abuse, including rape, but said there was “insufficient evidence to support any arrest or prosecution” against former staff.

NYACK, NY — Seven New York Hospitals, including Montefiore Nyack Hospital, have settled with the state Attorney General’s Office after an investigation into unlawful bills to rape survivors for forensic rape examinations.

Under the terms of the agreements, the hospitals will implement written policies to ensure that sexual assault survivors do not receive bills for their rape examinations, provide full restitution to any improperly billed sexual assault survivors, and pay costs.

Juan Leon, a 25 year old city hospital guard from Long Island City, Queens, has been arrested for sexually abusing a 16 year old girl as she lay in her Woodhull Hospital bed.  Leon entered the girl’s room in the pediatric unit of the Brooklyn hospital around 5 pm on Friday, and assaulted the teenager, touching her breasts over her nightgown, having her touch his genitals through his pants and kissed her.  The girl reported the attack on Monday and detectives arrested Leon later that day.  He has been charged
