Washington state paid a record $2 million to a former foster child who said she was abused in Benton County for over a decade.
Tamaki Law, which represented the now 28-year-old woman, said they believe it is the state’s largest-ever sex abuse settlement in Eastern and Central Washington.
The woman filed suit in 2018 against the state, the Department of Social and Health Services and Child Protective Services, as well as her foster mom who later adopted her.

RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — John Lee Thompson will spend the rest of his life in prison after a Randall County jury sentenced him for six child sex crimes this week.
According to a release from Randall County District Attorney Robert Love, Thompson was convicted four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child.
Upon his conviction, he asked the jury to determine his sentence. Thursday, the jury returned a life sentence for each count.

ASHLAND – An Ashland foster parent has been indicted on multiple sex crime charges involving three children he was fostering, Ashland County Prosecutor Chris Tunnell said Tuesday.

Christopher Wolf, 55, is accused of attempting to solicit sex from three boys under the age of 13 who were in his care between June 30 and Dec. 18, 2018, according to Ashland County Common Pleas Court documents.
He also is accused of creating obscene material during that time portraying two of those children and attempting to do the same

CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) – A Culpeper County man was arrested and charged with numerous sex crimes against children involving his foster kids, family members and others.
Michael Stephens, 53, was arrested after several sexual assault investigations in King George County in 2009 and in Culpeper County in 2018 involving male foster children that were placed with him and his wife.
After the 2018 investigation, an adult family member also reported sex crimes he endured as a teenager.

Almost half of child sexual abuse victims were under the age of eight when the abuse began, according to research.
More than 4,000 survivors have shared their experiences with the Truth Project in England and Wales and, of the 3,265 accounts analysed for research, some 46% said they had only been eight when abused for the first time.
