Michael Caraballo, a 20 year old blind man, was ordered by a judge yesterday to be held in jail until he can post $15,000 bail for the alleged statutory rape of a 13 year old New Jersey girl. Fifteen men who said they were abused by clergy who taught at two Jesuit-run high schools in NewEngland have settled their claims. The dollar amounts of the settlements were not disclosed butthey were called fair and equitable. The Boston Globe reported yesterday the settlements totaled$5.8 million and ranged from $75,000 to more than $1 million. A 13 year old girl was sexually assaulted by a man when she returned to her home in Long Island City from a grocery store. The unidentified man grabbed her in the vestibule and sodomized her on Christmas Day at around 3 p.m. The man fled. The victim was released after treatment at Elmhurst General Hospital.

Scott Hayward, a cheerleading coach, was convicted of taking two teenage girls, ages 14 and 15,to London for sex and was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison. Hayward drank with the girlsand sexually assaulted them. He was found guilty in July of transporting the girls out of state forthe purposes of having sex. He falsely told the girls they would be competing in an internationalcheerleading competition.

Scott Sullivan, 29, has been arrested for attempting to sodomize a 12 year old boy in Greenwich Village. The incident occurred November 6 at around 2:30 a.m. when he tried to sexually assault the youngster in the doorway of an apartment building on Grove Street near Seventh Avenue. Sullivan was charged with attempted sodomy.

Donald Demonde, a 62 year old off-duty school safety agent, has been arrested for sodomizing a girl 11 times at his Co-op City apartment building. He is accused of committing the acts from November 1998 to April 2002. Demonde, who is assigned to the personnel division of Bronx East School Safety, was suspended. He was charged with sodomy and sexual abuse.
