Anthony Joseph Palma, 56, was arrested Monday and charged with kidnapping and first degreemurder of 8 year old Kirsten Hatfield in May 1997.  Kirsten disappeared from her home inMidwest City, the second grader’s bedroom window was cracked and her underwear was found inthe backyard.  The child has never been found.  Palma is a former neighbor of thegirl.  Thanks to DNA evidence, police were able to make the arrest.  Lab techniciansdiscovered blood from the window sill and the girl’s underwear came from an unknownmale.  Investigators ran that DNA through a national database and didn’t’ find amatch.  Authorities then tracked down about 10 men who’d previously been questioned andasked for DNA samples.  One of them was Palma, who lived just two doors down from the Hatfieldhouse and had been interviewed twice in 1997.  His sample matched the DNA on the underwear andthe window sill.
