Jose Rigoberto Sanchez, a 29 year old former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, wassentenced on Friday to nine years in state prison for raping a woman while on the job. 
Sanchez avoided trial by pleading no contest last month to one count each of rape undercolor of authority and soliciting a bribe.  He was arrested in July after a six monthinvestigation into an incident on September 22, 2010, in which he was accused of raping a woman whohe had pulled over for an outstanding warrant.  According to prosecutors, he offered to notarrest the 24 year old woman if she would have sex with him.  He had her get into the back ofthe marked sheriff’s vehicle and drove her to the desert, where he raped her.  Twonights later, he pulled over a 36 year old woman on suspicion of driving under the influence andsolicited a bribe in the form of sexual activity.
