EX-NYPD COP GETS 1 YEAR FOR CHILD PORN

Police Officer Michael Farrell, 36, a father of two who is married to another city cop, was arrested on May 17, 2005, in an NYPD pedophile sting that caught him in an Internet chat room surfing for sex with teenage girls. He was arrested at a Queens McDonald's after approaching an undercover female cop, who he thought was the 14 year old girl he had encountered via the Web site I Love NYC Cops. The ADA had sought $50,000 bail based on the felony charge against Farrell for attempted dissemination of indecent materials and a misdemeanor rap for attempted endangerment of the welfare of a minor. The judge would set bail at $10,000.

Farrell pleaded guilty on November 19, 2007, to child pornography charges and was promised a 1-year jail sentence.  He would have faced up to 4 years in prison had he been convicted after trial.  The plea deal eliminated the charge of attempted endangering the welfare of a child.  He could remain free until February 14 to get his financial affairs in order.  A Long Island charge is possession of a sexual performance by a child.  Nassau County Assistant DA Steve Traglia said that if Farrell pleaded guilty there, he would get no more jail time than in Manhattan and that his sentence would run concurrently with the agreed-upon sentence.

On March 20, 2008, Farrell was sentenced to a year in jail.
