EX-TEACHER FACES CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

PFMLIT CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, General, LONG ISLAND NEWS, SEX OFFENDERS AND OTHERS IN POSITIONS OF TRUST, TEACHERS SCHOOL STAFF

Lawrence Gerken, a 61 year old former Copiague teacher, was found in possession of images depicting men having sex with minors.  Gerken, of Calverton, was released yesterday on $250,000 bond in federal court in Central Islip.  He is charged with one count of felony receipt of child pornography.  If convicted, he could serve 5 to 20 years in prison.  Gerken retired from the Copiague School District in 1999 after a 33 year career teaching technology and driver education.
