FEAR PERVS MAY TRACK TOTS THRU WEB SITE

Activists charged yesterday that a state Web site that gives directions to thousands of home-based day care centers could make it easier for creeps to prey on kids.  The Voice of Organized Independent Childcare Educators said, The information could easily wind up in the wrong hands, including those of child predators or noncustodial parents.  The organization who represents thousands of home-based day care centers in New York, said detailed directions and maps for the facilities should immediately be taken off the Web site kept by Gov. Pataki's Office of Children and Family Services.

Laura Ahearn, founder of the national group Parents for Megan's Law, agreed, saying, The federal government got rid of information on the location of nuclear power plants from its Web sites after 9/11, so it should also be a good idea for the state to change its Web site so children are protected from predators.
