WENATCHEE — A Wenatchee man is now charged with third-degree child rape in both Chelan and Douglas counties, stemming from the same alleged sexual misconduct with a high school student he coached in youth soccer 15 years ago.
Cristian Florencio Barboza, 38, was charged with a single child-rape count in Chelan County on April 6, six months after his arrest by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies on four counts. Both cases allege that Barboza committed multiple instances of sexual contact with a student he coached at Eastmont High School between 2005 and 2007.
Detectives say the victim disclosed four specific instances, three of them taking place in and around East Wenatchee and one in Wenatchee. The alleged victim was about 14 years old at the time.
Barboza coached soccer at Eastmont for five years in the 2000s. Douglas County detectives arrested him last October after arranging for the victim to exchange text messages with Barboza, during which he allegedly admitted to sexual misconduct with the student in the period she described.
Chelan County prosecutors charged Barboza by summons; he was due to appear in Chelan County Superior Court this afternoon. His Douglas County trial date has not been set.
