David Onstott, a 36 year old registered sex offender, confessed to killing 13 year old Sarah Lunde, who disappeared in April, saying he got into an argument with her and he choked her to death in her home. He was charged with first degree murder. Sarah was last seen April 9, shortly after returning home from a church trip. Early the next morning, Onstott paid a visit to the family's home to look for Sarah's mother whom he once dated. After Sarah let him into the house, they argued and he put her in a choke hold and killed her. Onstott, who has a rape conviction, has been held without bail in the Hillsborough County Jail on unrelated charges.

Onstott was ordered held without bail on April 18, and a prosecutor said no decision had been made on whether to seek the death penalty.  Sarah's partly clothed remains in a fish pond.

Onstott was caught trying to dig out of his jail cell.  He was found scratching on the concrete wall of his cell with a metal towel holder.  He had scraped only about a quarter of an inch.
