When the state's highest court hears arguments tomorrow over its legality, Governor Pataki'syear old order to keep dangerous sex predators locked up past their prison terms faces it steepestlegal challenge. Because they were deemed to still pose a threat to society or themselves, 118 sexoffenders have been released from prison directly to mental institutions. The Mental Hygiene LegalServices is arguing the procedure is improper.
