HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - A 37-year-old Hamtramck man is facing charges for the alleged sexual assault of a mentally disabled teenager.

According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Ibrahim Aljahim is employed as a student liaison Oakland International Academy, at Florian and Lathem in Hamtramck, where the 18-year-old male victim goes to school.

The inappropriate sexual contact occurred on Sept. 18, "on school property during school hours," prosecutors said, while Aljahim was in a position of authority over the victim.

Hamtramck police were called to the school the day of the alleged crime, and Aljahim was arrested following an investigation.

Aljahim was arraigned in 34th District Court in Romulus Sunday on two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, under multiple variables.

Bond was set at $10,000/10% on the condition that he surrender his passport and have no contact with the complaining witness or his parents if released.

Meanwhile, Oakland International Academy Principal Larry Cowger said school officials have been cooperating with investigators on the case.

In a letter to parents, Cowger said Aljahim has been suspended from his position and ordered to stay away from students.

"We are shocked at the allegations, but would remind all students and parents that the actions of this individual do not reflect the policies and values of Oakland International Academy.," Cowger added. "We are committed to maintaining a safe campus for the protection of all students. All staff members are expected to maintain a standard of care for the supervision, control, and protection of students."

There appears to be some disagreement as to where the alleged abuse occured. In an email seeming to dispute prosecutors' claims, the school contends: "It not been confirmed that the incident as alleged actually occurred on school property. It certainly did not occur in the building."

Prosecutors said no further details about the allegations will be released at this time, and that more information will come out at the preliminary exam set for Oct. 10 before Judge Alexis G. Krot in 31st District Court. Aljahim's next court appearance, a probable cause conference, is scheduled for Oct. 3.
