MOB KILLS SUSPECTED RAPIST

An enraged mob killed Marcel Quinonez, a 26 year old suspected child rapist, in Ecuador, dragging him from a rural jail and twice dousing him with gasoline, setting him on fire.  The grisly attack by about 1,000 residents of Cayambe was broadcast on television news programs.  The angry mob broke down the metal door of the Cayambe jail and overpowered four police officers to reach him.  They dragged him into the street, beat and kicked him, then doused him with gasoline and set him on fire.  After using tear gas to break up the crowd, the police took him to a hospital and the crowd followed.  They dragged him back into the street and torched him a second time.  Police again broke up the crowd and transferred him to a government hospital where he died.
