Orlando police identified two suspects in unrelated sex crimes that occurred near Lake Eola last month.
There was initially some concern the two cases were related, but Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolón told reporters at a press conference on Saturday they were not connected.

The suspect in the Oct. 9 incident at a home in the 400 block of Cathcart Ave. in the Lake Eola Heights neighborhood is identified as 28-year-old Michael T. Scarlett II while the suspect in the Oct. 26 rape in the 1300 block of East Jefferson Street in Thornton Park is James Calixte, 36.
Both men should be considered dangerous and it’s important they be arrested, Rolón said.

“The longer they remain [at large] there’s always the possibility that they may strike again,” Rolón said. “Of course we don’t want that to happen in Orlando or anywhere in our Central Florida community.

In the incident on Cathcart Ave. a woman was coming inside her home after walking her dog when a man came up from behind her and put his hand over her mouth.
Neighbors came outside after hearing her scream and the suspect ran away.
In the Jefferson Street incident, a man with a bandana covering his face forced a woman inside and raped her, police said. The suspect ran away.

Both cases got a combined 40 tips from Crimeline, said Det. Charles Crosby. Evidence collected at both scenes helped identify the suspects, he said.
