POLICE: ELMONT MAN MENACED TEENS

Patrick Rogers, a 54 year old level 3 sex offender from Elmont, menaced three teenage girlswalking to school Monday before barricading himself in his home for four hours.  The girls, 16and 17, were walking in front of Rogers' house at 236 Fieldmere Street, at about 7:40 a.m. whenpolice said he lunged at the 16 year old, prompting all of the girls to flee.  After yellingand briefly chasing after the victims, he retreated back into his house after announcing to aneighbor that he was going to get a knife.  He refused to open his doors when police arrived,officers surrounded his house for the next four hours and tried to talk him into coming out. At about 12:30 p.m. they succeeded.  Rogers is charged with first degree recklessendangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and three counts of third-degree menacing.
