POLICE PROBE REPORTS OF ATTEMPTED ABDUCTIONS

Nassau and Suffolk police are investigating three reports of attempted abductions in the last week.  In each incident, students said they were approached by at least one man in a car, often as they walked to or from school.  In Rockville Centre, a 9 year old girl on her way to North Oceanside road School No. 5 was approached by a man in a white truck at Long Beach and Merrick roads.  On Tuesday, a 12 year old boy, walking home from football practice was approached by a man in a red Ford minivan around 6:50 p.m. at Stanton and Westervelt avenues and a short time later at nearby Russell Street in Baldwin.  The other attempt was in Suffolk, in Commack.  There, two elementary-age boys playing basketball in a front yard were approached Sunday by two men in their early 20s driving a blue/gray car.  They asked the boys if they wanted to go for a ride.
