New York Senators SUPPORT restoration of residency restriction and the protection for the
COMMUNITY PROTECTION ACT.

Senator Tom Croci (S5201) and Assemblyman Dean Murray (A1651A) have a bill and are working with Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre to carry the bill in the majority in the Assembly. The Town Supervisors Association SUPPORTS the legislation as does the Association President Rich Schaffer and members including Supervisor Ed Romaine. Both Suffolk and Nassau County Executives and Presiding Officers of the Legislatures: Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves, support residency restriction and the Community Protection Act and in fact Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone spearheaded the Community Protection Act.

Just a few examples of the nearly 50 registered sex offenders in Suffolk and Nassau who
moved in very close to schools AFTER the local residency restriction laws were
struck down by the Court of Appeals - and why we need a new law:

  1. An offender convicted on Rape 1st degree and Sodomy 1st degree against a 9 year old AND another minor. (Lives approx. 700 feet from an elementary school)
  2. An offender convicted of Rape 1st degree against a 7 year old.
    (Lives approx. 425 feet from an elementary school)
  3. A Sexually Violent Offender convicted of raping a 9 year old
    (Lives approx. 700 feet from an elementary school)
  4. A Sexually Violent Offender convicted of raping and sodomizing an 11 year old female.
    (Lives approx. 90 feet from an elementary school)
  5. A Sexually Violent Offender convicted of sexually abusing a 7 year old.
    (Lives approx. 65 feet from an elementary school)
  6. An adult male convicted of having sex with an 8 year old.
    (Lives approx. 700 feet from an elementary school)
  7. A TWICE convicted level 3 high risk sex offender convicted of raping two 13 year olds.
    (Lives approx. 120 feet from an elementary school).
  8. A TWICE convicted level 3 high risk sex offender convicted of raping and sexually
    abusing a 13 & 14 year old. (Lives approx. 300 feet from an elementary school).
  9. An offender convicted of having sex and deviate sex with a 7 year old, two 9 year olds,
    and a 10 year old. (Lives approx. 950 feet from a High School)
  10. A Sexually Violent Offender convicted of sexual abuse of a female less than 11 year old.
