LAS CRUCES - A Rincon woman who reported years of alleged sexual abuse by a trusted adult when she was a child and into adulthood told investigators that she was tired of the abuse that had gone on for far too long and she deserves justice.
Richard Roach, 70, of Rincon, was arrested at 12:54 p.m. on July 19 in the 600 block of Rutlege Road. He is charged with two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child under the age of 13, both first-degree felonies; two counts of criminal sexual penetration in the fourth degree; and five counts of criminal sexual contact, according to court records.
Roach was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center, where he is initially being held without bond.
According to court records, the woman who reported the abuse gave authorities detailed accounts of multiple times Roach is alleged to have assaulted her, since she was 13 years old.
The woman allegedly told authorities that every time she asked Roach for money, he would either attempt to have sex with her, or have sex with her.
Court documents state that when the woman began to date someone, Roach asked her why she was leaving him. She said she told him he already knew why. The woman confronted Roach and asked him why every time she asked him money, he would try to have sex with her. During the confrontation, the woman told him that was wrong.
Roach allegedly asked the woman to rethink everything, because he didn't want her to leave.
The woman told a trusted adult female of the alleged abuse. The female allegedly asked the woman not to report what happened because it would ruin her life and his. The adult female told investigators that she didn't believe the abuse happened.
