SECRET SHAME OF OUR SCHOOLS – GIRLS NOT GETTING HELP THEY NEED

A Post study found that 15-year-old girls in Brooklyn high schools are statistically most likely to be sexually abused by predators in city schools.  An overwhelming number of female students want the Board of Education to arm them with the information and the support they need to survive.  A perfect example of how helpless girls feel when they encounter sexual abuse in school is when a 15-year-old girl was pregnant and didn't know whom to turn to.  The father was an adult school employee at a Brooklyn high school, who paid for the abortion and left the girl alone to contend with the emotional issues.  The board has a sex abuse curriculum, but as one assistant principal said, teachers are already overwhelmed with other lessons, such as AIDS awareness, contraception, conflict resolution and the Regent's exams.  Most students don't even know the name of their school's child abuse liaison, the person who is supposed to be designated at every school to handle abuse charges.
