SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY NETS SECOND ARREST

Officials are crediting the online state police registry with leading to the arrest of a convicted sex offender for parole violations.  An astute school employee noticed a man repeatedly hanging around the middle school, even though he had no children attending the school.  He had been seen at after school sports programs giving out cookies to staff and students.  Having her suspicions aroused, the

school employee went to the State Police Web Site for Sex offenders and identified Thomas Nivert as a convicted sex offender who had served three years in prison for child molestation.  As a condition of parole, Mr. Nivert was to have no contact with children.  The state database consists of more than 6,300 convicted sex offenders, and can be searched by an offender's name, address, zip code, city

or county.  The database can be reached on the Internet through the state police Web page.
