SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED (Judge gives 33-year-old Lindenhurst man convicted of multiple sex crimes 25 years to life in prison)

Keith Newborn, a 33 year old Lindenhurst man, has been charged with sex abuse and stalking after the then 23 year old woman he allegedly abused a year ago spotted him again and called police.  On October 22, 2001, Newborn offered the woman, who was waiting for a bus in Bellmore, a ride.  She accepted and while inside the car he offered her $100 for sex.  The woman refused his offer and tried to leave the vehicle.  Newborn grabbed her, threatened her with his fist and forced her to touch him sexually.  He then dropped her off in Hempstead.  She didn't report the crime but while walking in Oceanside she saw him again.  He saw her and pulled over and continued to follow her.  She wrote down his license plate number before evading him and called police.  He was arrested after officers traced his car.  He is charged with first degree sex abuse and third degree stalking.  He faced up to 7 years in prison for the sex abuse charge and up to a year for stalking, if convicted.  In July 2002, Newborn was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and public lewdness, after exposing himself to a 14 year old girl in Massapequa.  Those misdemeanor charges are pending.

Newborn was sentenced on October 14, 2004, to 25 years to life in prison.  He was also sentenced by Suffolk County Court Judge Louis Ohlig to 15 years to life for the sexual abuse of the same woman, who was attacked at knifepoint December 6, 2001.  He threatened her with the knife, drove her to the West Hills section and sodomized her.  The sentences will be served concurrently.  He was found guilty of first degree sexual abuse and first degree sodomy on May 6.  Newborn is a persistent violent felony offender who is registered as a Level 3 offender, the most likely to re-offend.  He is also awaiting trial on two more sodomy charges pending in Nassau County.
