STATE TARGETS PREDATORS OF KIDS ON WEB

According to the Detroit News, in Michigan the state's new attorney general will name a team of investigators to handle Internet crimes, two state senators are proposing laws targeting adults who solicit children online and some counties, including Wayne and Oakland, have started special squads to surf the Web for sex criminals.  This is Michigan's promise to get tough on criminals using the Internet to prey on children.  A bill has been introduced by State Senator Michael Rogers, who is a father and a former FBI agent, that will increase the penalties for certain crimes if the criminal uses the Internet.  These include rape, kidnapping and sexual conduct with a child.  Those convicted of using the Internet would be sentenced to an additional two years prison, just as criminals who use guns receive two more years.
