SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER GETS JAIL (A sexually abused 8-year-old girl describes her anger as a judge sentences the man who baby-sat her)
Winston Lindsay, a 60 year old Sunday school teacher, was convicted of first degree sexual abuse, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. He told police he was a police officer when he lived in Jamaica and a Sunday school teacher at the Faith Tabernacle Church of God on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon, where he sometimes preached. He was arrested November 12, 2003, for sexual abuse of a girl who was younger than 11 years old. Lindsay, of 537 Mount Avenue in North Babylon, faced up to 8 years in prison.
On March 1, 2004, he was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years' probation. The girl spoke timidly from behind an eye-level lectern in a Riverhead courtroom, confronting the Sunday school teacher who betrayed her trust and molested her. Prosecutors said he abused the girl while baby-sitting for her on several occasions.
