TEACHER IN SEX CASE FORFEITS LICENSE

Bradley Roffer, a 30 year old Mount Sinai Middle School physical education teacher, was arrested after asking a 14 year old student during an Internet chat to have sex with him. Roffer, of 29 Mt. Rainier Avenue in Farmingville, was charged with one felony count of disseminating indecent material to a minor and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child. He surrendered to police after being arraigned and was released on his own recognizance.

Roffer was granted conditional release and ordered to forfeit his state teaching license at his sentencing yesterday.  He was also ordered not to contact the girl or members of the Three Village swim team as additional conditions for his release.  Roffer pleaded guilty in March to third degree criminal solicitation, admitting that in late November 2001 he propositioned the girl, who was in eighth grade at the time, for sex while chatting over the Internet.  He was originally charged with disseminating indecent material to minors, which was later upgraded to criminal solicitation, a felony punishable by up to 4 years in prison.  In exchange for his guilty plea and agreeing to give up his teaching credentials, he was spared jail or probation time.
