WARREN – A Watchung Hills Regional High School teacher is accused of sexting a student.

Sean DiGiovanna, 50, of Somerset has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and promoting obscene material to a child, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson and Warren Township Chief of Police William Keane said in a release Tuesday.

On Sept. 11 the Warren Township Police Department received a report that a teacher at the school, DiGiovanna allegedly sent sexually-explicit images of himself to a juvenile student. Additionally, the victim reported receiving electronic messages from DiGiovanna allegedly indicating he wanted to pursue a sexual relationship. Robertson said in the release.

Communication data warrants were obtained by law enforcement for DiGiovanna’s cell phone and social media accounts. Forensic examination of DiGiovanna’s phone revealed the sexually-explicit images and text conversations reported by the victim, Robertson said.

Warren Township police detectives arrested DiGiovanna on Oct. 10 at the Warren Township Police Headquarters without incident. He was then lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing. He was released fro jail after his first court appearance, according to the prosecutor’s office.
