ABOUT ONE IN THREE WOMEN ABUSED IN THEIR LIFETIME

Researchers estimate that as many as one in three women have been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in their lifetime, based on worldwide statistics.  Co-author Dr. Mary Ellsberg of the Center for Health & Gender Equity in Takoma Park, Maryland, told Reuters Health, Contrary to what most people think, that most violence against women takes place in dark alleys within strangers, that's not the case.  Women are most at risk from people they know, their family members, their spouses, their friends.
