October 2016 - Laura A. Ahearn, L.M.S.W., J.D., Executive Director of Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victim Center announced today a generous five thousand dollar donation from Walmart Stores, Inc. to assist the agency in supporting its child sexual abuse and adult rape and domestic violence prevention education and community support programs, and its crime victim support services programs. “On behalf of all of our Long Island stores, associates and customers, we’re very pleased and proud to be able to continue to support the vital work of Parents for Megan’s Law on violence prevention, education and community support,” said Jason Klipa, Walmart Director of Public Affairs.

As seen in the picture, David Laufer, representing Walmart, presented the check to Laura Ahearn on Thursday, October 13th at the organization’s Ronkonkoma office. In addition, the Centereach Long Island Walmart store donated an XBOX to the organization for their 2016 Champion Award Gala fundraiser, and the Central Islip Walmart donated a $100.00 gift card. The December 8, 2016 Gala will honor lawmakers, members of the community, and law enforcement who have made significant contributions to preventing sexual assault and domestic violence. Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse and rape, the provision of services to victims of violent crime, and elderly, disabled, and minor victims of all crime. Amityville, NY – Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory recently visited Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center in Stony Brook for a tour of their facility and to participate in a ride-along with members of their sex offender management team on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

“I want to thank Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center for inviting me to get a first-hand look at all the work they do to help protect the residents of our county,” said Presiding Officer Gregory. “The experience reaffirmed for me the impact this program has in ensuring that potentially harmful individuals are following every aspect of the law.”

In March 2013, Suffolk County turned over the task of verifying the addresses of the county’s sex offenders to Parents for Megan's Law under the county's Community Protection Act. The agency employs retired law enforcement officers who travel to all corners of the county in morning and evening shifts to verify addresses of offenders.

“I applaud Presiding Officer Gregory for his unwavering commitment to keeping the residents of Suffolk County safe through prevention education and sex offender management,” said Laura Ahearn, Executive Director of Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center. “Presiding Officer Gregory took time out of his very busy schedule to personally observe agency operations and programs, work with agency staff, and offer valuable insight into the challenges facing our communities.”

In addition to their sex offender management team, the agency provides crime victim services to child and adult victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and all victims of violent crime. Prevention educators work with public and private schools, community organizations and houses of worship to provide sexual abuse prevention programs for children, teens and adults.

April 2015 – Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victims Center (PFML) Executive Director Laura Ahearn, L.M.S.W., along with agency staff presented their 2015 Champion for Children award to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers (IBEW), Local 25 for their generous donation of technical services and telecommunications equipment. The award was accepted by James E. Wisdom, Business Representative of IBEW, Local 25 (pictured in the center left). Parents for Megan’s Law recently relocated their main headquarters from Stony Brook to the Petrocelli Building in Ronkonkoma. IBEW, Local 25 volunteers working with PFML staff, designed, planned and implemented the agency network infrastructure. IBEW, Local 25 volunteers also donated and installed a new rack, 4 patch panels and ran over 175 lines of CAT 5e cable, all of which was generously donated.
