DETECTIVE NABBED IN PERV STING

David Velez, a 34 year old NYPD detective, has been arrested on March 15th  for making lewd sexual advances over the Internet to an undercover cop posing as a 14 year old girl.  Velez, who is assigned to the 67th Detective Squad in Brooklyn, was arrested after he tried to meet his Internet chat partner but was instead greeted by members of his own department who had been waiting for him to make the rendezvous.  He was charged with one felony count of attempted disseminating indecent material to a minor and a misdemeanor count of attempted endangering the welfare of a child.  He was released on his own recognizance after his arraignment.
