Smyrna, TN-- Former Houston Academy and University of Alabama basketball standout Jim Farmer faces human trafficking charges in Tennessee. He is among 16 men accused of seeking sex from minors.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said those arrests resulted from a two day investigation in Rutherford County.
TBI posted decoy advertisements online to identify people trying to engage in commercial sex with minors.
“Low and behold, many of these men showed up to our operation. Wanting to have sex with a 16-year old, they were met with some of our toughest law enforcement officers,” TBI spokesperson Josh Devine told television WTVF.
Born in 1964, James Hubert (Jim) Farmer grew up in Dothan and attended Houston Academy where he excelled on the basketball court.
He later starred at the University of Alabama before the Dallas Mavericks drafted him in 1987. He later played for other NBA teams including Utah, Seattle, Philadelphia, Denver.
Farmer had limited success as a country music singer.
