PEORIA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – An arrest has been made in connection to an "extremely brazen" burglary and “sexual offense” that happened at a Peoria home Wednesday around 8 a.m. in the neighborhood of 97th and Olive avenues.
Peoria police said detectives and SWAT arrested 22-year-old Eniefiok Akpanikat around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night at a Peoria home in the area of 97th Avenue and Mission Lane.
According to police, Akpanikat knocked on the door of a home and told the woman who answered that he would walk her dogs. When she told him she does not have dogs, he offered to babysit.
The victim told officers Akpanikat then stepped inside and grabbed her. Police said that’s when he “committed a sexual offense," but they did not elaborate. A family member in another part of the house reportedly heard the victim screaming for help. Akpanikat left, but the relative was able to snap photos as he walked away.
Police deployed a K-9 and a drone to help officers search the neighborhood but came up empty, until now.
Akpanikat was processed at the Peoria Police Department before heading to 4th Avenue Jail. Police thank everyone who helped in the arrest of Akpanikat.
