MELROSE, Mass. —A registered sex offender who was accused of stalking a woman at a Melrose apartment complex has been arrested, according to police.
Melrose police said 33-year-old Tyler Jacquard, of Melrose, has been charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. He was also held on a parole violation relating to those charges.
Jacquard is a registered level-three sex offender and was convicted in 2014 and 2015 for open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior.
“I’d like to commend the officers who apprehended this individual on Saturday night, while they were on bicycle patrol in our community,” said Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle. “They were swift and effective in identifying the suspect, questioning him and placing him under arrest. I also would like to recognize the victim for courageously reporting this suspicious behavior to police.”
Police said the woman called them on Saturday to report that she had noticed a man watching her over a period of several days, when she would leave her apartment building to walk her dog.
According to police, the woman later checked the online state sex offender registry and recognized Jacquard as the man she had seen watching her.
At about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, officers patrolling the area on bicycle saw a man matching the description provided by the woman. Police said they found the man standing by a window and looking into an apartment.
Officers approached the man and identified him as Jacquard, according to police. He was arrested without incident after an investigation.
Jacquard was being held pending his arraignment Tuesday in Malden District Court.
