SAN ANGELO --- A man was arrested Tuesday after a 9-year-old girl described several incidents of sexual abuse to investigators, according to an arrest affidavit.

The girl told investigators a male relative who lives in the same home inappropriately touched her in November 2018. Other instances had occurred on at least four other occasions, the affidavit states.

The girl told her mother about the man touching her over her underwear more than once, and each time the mother told the girl to avoid being around the man, the affidavit states.

The mother told investigators her daughter had made outcries to her on three occasions and the mother said she was at work when the incidents occurred, the affidavit states.

The man “could not recall” if he touched the girl and said he was confronted by the mother once about one incident, according to the affidavit.

Cody Ray Sears, 41, was arrested on suspicion of indecency with a child by sexual contact on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019. He was released from Tom Green County Jail on a $50,000 bond Wednesday morning on the condition that he would have no contact with the girl.
