Michael Dorris, a 52 year old prize winning author, killed himself using the Heaven's Gate cult suicide recipe.  Dorris was being investigated for child sex abuse.  He was the first unmarried American man to legally adopt three children.  He also fathered three more children after marrying.  His estranged wife, Erdrich, would not discuss the allegations.  The couple was locked in a bitter custody battle over their three children.
