A Newsday analysis found the encrypted dark Web is being used by pedophiles in NewYork and across the United States to anonymously visit child porn website, with more than 10,000pages claiming to contain explicit photos and videos of underage children.? A review of tens ofthousands of dark Web sites in January found 10,108 that say they trafficked in images or videosthat the sites themselves characterized as child porn.? The explicit content was labeled withbanners advertising preteen models, 9 y.o. young girls, and obscene descriptions of sex acts.?Authorities say they are trying to contain the rapid proliferation of child porn sold and tradedonline using cryptographic anonymity tools and encryption program, which can hide computers' IPaddresses and allow users to surf the Web anonymously.

Laura Ahearn, executive director of Parents for Megan's Law, said the possession anddistribution of child pornography on the dark Web or hidden by encryption must be addressed, beforelegions of additional children are victimized.? We must provide law enforcement with the resourcesthey need to expose those who employ technology to conceal their identity to exploit our mostvulnerable, Ahearn said.
